Waiting Arms
Sunday, February 20, 2022 by By Sarah

My nephew toddled toward his mother. Then, when he was only inches away, he fell into her arms, giggling. He knew she would be there. He knew she was waiting for him. She was his safe place. God is like that.

God waits for us –

  • When we mess up
  • When we feel far away
  • When others hurt us
  • When we hurt ourselves
  • When we turn our back on him

No matter what, God holds out his arms and waits for us to make that first step. He knows we’re weak and scared. When we take those first faltering steps, his arms reach into that distance between us and he enfolds us in his embrace. Just like my sister-in-law, his smile lights up his face, happy that we’ve fallen into him.

“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!” Isaiah 30:18, NIV.

“But God’s not finished. He’s waiting around to be gracious to you. He’s gathering strength to show mercy to you. God takes the time to do everything right–everything. Those who wait around for him are the lucky ones.” Isaiah 30:18, MSG.
