Learning To Float

My youngest son splashed on the pool’s steps, while his six-year-old brother clung to me.
I spoke in my most reassuring voice. “We’re going to float today. You can do it.”
He laughed nervously as I loosened his death grip from my neck. With my arms still supporting him, his bottom and back touched the water. His head remained about six inches out of the pool. Every muscle in his body tensed. He glanced at me. “Am I floating, Mom?”
My son wanted to half-way float. Floating while still in my arms. It’s not a real thing. Either you float or you don’t.
Just like we trust God or we walk away from Him. We can’t live for God halfway.
My son gripped my neck because he knew I was a safe place.
God calls us to cling desperately to Him. He’s our safe place. With Him, we will never drown. With Him, we can live a peaceful and joyful life.
Either we live for God or we live for the world.
Which will you choose?
“…Choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the river or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15 ESV).

; I remember going through this same experience with my children. I'm glad they felt safe with me, but I'm grateful they learned how to float and swim. I agree, we need to hold on tight to God. I'm so thankful He never lets us go.Reply by: Sarah Schwerin
